On February 6 and 7, The Global Partnerships Forum, in collaboration with The Johns Hopkins University Center for Clinical Global Education (headed by Dr. Robert C. Bollinger) convened the first ever Global, Education, Technology and Health Summit (GETHealth Summit) at the United Nations in New York City.

The summit, which was co-hosted by the Governments of  Ethiopia, Norway, Rwanda and Uganda, and the International Telecommunication Union, with the support of the UN Office for Partnerships, as well as a number of key US and international partners.  It brought together a global audience of health care providers, researchers, educators, and administrators in the medical industry, as well as leaders in the pharmaceutical, business, philanthropic, and technological fields to generate fresh knowledge, partnerships, and ideas that will more effectively leverage the three IT domains (infrastructure, devices, software) to address the critical health workforce gap.

New York, NY (April 29th, 2011) -- Ambassador Cheick Sidi Diarra, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States, will lead 6,000 attendees and 41 Heads of State at the upcoming 4th United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries, in Istanbul, Turkey.  The Conference convenes from 9th – 13th May, and mobilises the entire United Nations System, Member States, governments, international organisations and key players from the private sector arena.

Release of UN Report on Least Developed Countries

In conjunction with LDC-IV, the UN Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States published a Report of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Eminent Persons Group on the LDC’s titled, “Compact for Inclusive Growth and Prosperity.”  This brief, yet informative report, which includes a note from the Secretary-General, addresses social and economic issues in the LDCs.

Columbia Future Leaders Conference

On April 9th, Amir Dossal gave the keynote address at the Columbia Future Leaders Conference, “Building Leaders: Revolutionizing the Future.” The event included over 120 Columbia University students and alumni, as well as 40 guest speakers, including Idar Kreutzer, CEO of Storebrand ASA, and Andrea Taylor, Director of Community Affairs in North America for Microsoft.  The participants addressed a variety of pressing global issues including health, technology, economic development and the environment.

Pearl Initiative’s First Board Meeting

The Pearl Initiative held their first board meeting on April 19th at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. The Pearl Initiative is a private sector led program promoting transparency and accountability within business, across the Arabian Gulf.  The Initiative is comprised of both private sector partners, and key leaders in government, working together to improve corporate governance and achieve better public reporting.

During the 4th Peace and Sport International Forum held in Monaco from 1st to 3rd December, Mr. Amir DOSSAL was appointed Ambassador for Peace and Sport, L'Organisation pour la Paix par le Sport . To symbolize his commitment, he was presented with an emblem of a small Golden Dove by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, Patron of the organization, and by Joël Bouzou, its President and Founder.

UNA-NY Presents 2010 Humanitarian Awards

This year's theme was "Partnerships to End Poverty and World Hunger," also celebrating the 65th Anniversary of the United Nations by honoring Global Partnerships, a UN Millennium Development Goal. This year Mr. Feike Sijbesma, Chief Executive Officer of DSM, and Mr. Amir Dossal, Executive Director of the UN Office for Partnerships were honored for their accomplishments.
